Chateau des Correaux Vieilles Vignes Saint-Veran Blanc 2022

Chateau des Correaux Vieilles Vignes Saint-Veran Blanc 2022

Château des Correaux’s Saint Veran is made from grapes drawn from the domaine’s own superb vineyards. Saint Veran's wines rarely fetch the high prices of its more fashionable neighbours making wines like this a rare Burgundy bargain. Château des Correaux’s approach to winemaking blends tradition with innovation. Most of the work is done in the vineyard following sustainable practices while intervention in the winery is kept to a minimum. Winemaker Germain Bernard wants his vines to speak for themselves, which is why he ferments and ages his grapes in stainless steel rather than oak. Saint Veran’s wines have a tendency toward weight and butteriness and Germain doesn’t feel the need to add more with wood. 2022 was a glorious year for Burgundy and the Château des Correaux’s Saint Veran is now at its peak.

Taste

The Château des Correaux’s Saint Veran has a bright, mid-gold hue from which rises a lovely bouquet of red apples, peaches and citrus fruit. Plump and fruit-driven while remaining elegant and well-balanced, bottle age has softened and rounded it so that it now offers white peaches, pears, apricots and lemons with a honey and mineral tinted finish.  Ideal with white meats, it will also provide the perfect partner to white fish and seafood.

About the Producer

Château des Correaux is located in the village of Leynes at the very southern tip of Burgundy’s Maconnais region on the border with Beaujolais. It has been in the capable hands of the Bernard family since 1803 and is now helmed by Germain Bernard. Today, the family produce a range of Burgundies including wines from leading villages such as Pouilly Fuissé and Saint-Véran. In total they own 20 hectares of vines, 19 of which are white. Germain sees himself as the custodian of his vineyards, ones he will one day hand down to the next generation. To ensure their inheritance and to uphold the quality of the wines, they grow sustainably and use chemicals only when absolutely necessary.
