95 Points - Decanter. The Chateau Cantenac Brown 2016 is another fantastic wine from this esteemed property. Composed of a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, it’s a sensational wine that bears all the hallmarks of this great vintage. The years of hard work and investment that have flowed into this estate have paid significant dividends and Cantenac Brown is now back where it belongs amongst the finest wines in Bordeaux. Compared to its neighbours Chateau Palmer and Chateau Margaux, it remains a bargain. Given the quality of the wines being made there, this is a situation that is unlikely to last.

"Poised and precise, this is excellent quality with well-defined black fruits. It feels like the fruit is ripe but not overly so, carefully delineated by great freshness and touches of slate, rosemary and dark chocolate. The extremely precise nose slowly reveals itself, gaining in power. I loved this en primeur and it's even more striking today. A great job by the Cantenac Brown team, it lives up to the quality of their 2015. 49% of production went into the grand vin, matured in 60% new oak."
Taste
Undoubtedly one of the wines of this great vintage, the Chateau Cantenac Brown 2016 combines power with purity. Very deeply coloured, medium-bodied and packed with flavour, it’s a brilliant wine. Violets and red flowers, truffles, espresso and a mass of dark red and black fruits populate the nose and palate. Wonderfully concentrated, its relatively low acidity gives it a luscious, heady character, yet it remains refined and serious. Enjoy this gorgeous wine with fine red meats and hard white cheeses over the next decade or so.
About the Producer
The Chateau Cantenac Brown we now know and love was established in 1806 by a Scottish wine merchant. In the famed 1855 classification, it was classified as a Troisièmes Cru (third growth). With its gravelly, free-draining soils and pebbles that reflect the sun’s heat, it is a perfect spot for producing exceptional grapes. In the 1970s and 1980s a lack of investment led to a period of underperformance. Since the mid-1990s, however, it has been steadily improving and is now back at its peak. In 2019 a new, sustainable winery was commissioned which has helped take their wines to even greater heights.

The TastingBOX is delivered free of charge by UK Royal Mail Tracked 48hr to UK addresses only.
As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.
Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.
In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.
If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.
No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.
We advise contacting our Customers Services team before making any claim to ensure the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Advent Calendars - Due to the made-to-order nature of our Advent Calendars, they are not eligible for a full refund. However, we reserve the right to issue a refund in the form of store credit.
