The La Spinetta Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2022 is one of those all-too-rare gems, an affordable great Piedmont wine. Produced from the excellent but incredibly small 2022 harvest, it takes Barbera’s natural intensity and complexity to new heights. Made from 100% Barbera grapes, it was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels rather than the more usual Slavonian oak ones, a luxurious treatment that adds a further dimension to the wine. Like most Barbera’s, the La Spinetta Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2022 will drink well young. Unlike most Barbera’s it will age brilliantly, gaining even greater nuance.

The La Spinetta Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2022 is a deeply coloured wine, with purple reluctantly giving way to rose petal pink at the rim. The bouquet is rich and heady. Morello cherries, plums, almonds, earthy spices and a touch of alpine strawberries are all on show, tones that are reflected on the fruity, full-bodied palate. Here they are joined by prunes, black figs and red cherries, plus a layer of creamy oak. The finish is fresh and clean, with the rounded tannins given a lift by toasty vanilla spice. Drink now with mushroom risotto or creamy cheese pasta, or cellar for up to decade.

La Spinetta is a renowned wine producer that’s best known for its excellent range of Piedmont wines. Founded in 1977, it’s the owner of several prestigious vineyards in Barbaresco and Barolo, but wine insiders know that their Barbera wines such as the Ca' di Pian Barbera d'Asti Superiore are where the value lies. La Spinetta are great advocates of the old vines, and to help them thrive and to produce wine sustainably, these are treated biodynamically, and grapes are harvested by hand – no mean feat given the aspects of some of their vineyards. The winery is state of the art and houses innovative rotating stainless-steel tanks which facilitate extraction while giving the winemaking team complete control. The La Spinetta wines are a joy, and every Italian wine lover should get to know them.

The TastingBOX is delivered free of charge by UK Royal Mail Tracked 48hr to UK addresses only.
As indicated in our Quality Promise we will happily refund or exchange any faulty bottles. All we ask is the bottles in question are returned to us at least half full for verification purposes. If a bottle is broken on delivery we will also replace or refund it but we do require photographic evidence of the breakage. Equally we can arrange for the bottles to be collected the next time you receive a delivery from us.
Should we be unable to fulfil any part, or all of an order, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will suggest comparable substitutions. You are free to refuse these suggestions and are eligible for a full refund of relevant parts of the order.
In all instances, Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) must be informed of any claim within 24 hours of receipt of delivery by email or telephone. All refunds will be issued after we have received and approved the faulty items and the amount will be re-credited to your account within 30 days. The amount refunded will be equal to the full amount paid for the relevant products at the time of purchase and must be made by the same payment method as the original sale.
If you choose to cancel your contract of sale with Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) you may do so within 30 days of receipt of the goods. If the goods have already been dispatched they must be returned to us unopened and undamaged, and Perfect Cellar (Beyond the Bottle Ltd) will not be liable for any costs associated with the original or return delivery.
No refund can be given when a case has left bond as the value will be affected. Individual bottles of Fine Wine will be considered for refund on a case-by-case basis.
