Chateau Petit Bocq Saint-Estephe 2017 (6 Bottle Case)
Chateau Petit Bocq Saint-Estephe 2017 (6 Bottle Case)
92 Points - Wine Enthusiast. Chateau Petit Bocq made the most of its scattered Saint Estèphe plots and selected only the finest fruit for its Grand Vin in 2017. This Cru Bourgeois Supérieur is made up of 50% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2% Petit Verdot from vineyards that border the likes of Cos d’Estournel and Montrose. Known as one of the best value wines in all of Saint Estèphe, it’s been described as a ‘…seriously structured wine. It also has density and solid black fruits that are ready to develop into a rich, full wine’ and given 92 by Roger Voss in Wine Enthusiast.

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"With all the impressive Saint-Estèphe tannins to the fore, this is a seriously structured wine. It also has density and solid black fruits that are ready to develop into a rich, full wine. Drink from 2023."
Taste
Impressively deep colour with a lovely nuanced bouquet of crushed blackcurrants, raspberries, and cedar this is classic St Estephe. Black fruits mingle with red berries on the palate giving depth and freshness. Well-structured for a 2017, time has softened the tannins and the acidity and there’s a generous harmony to it now. The finish is firm, with notes of chocolate, cherry, and clay minerals at the end.
About the Producer
This once-underperforming property has been transformed by the Lagneaux family since they acquired it in 1993. They have added high-quality vineyard plots from across the commune – 90 in total – increasing Petit Bocq’s size from 1.3 to 20 hectares. The vineyards are managed sustainably using ‘lutte raisonnee’ or ‘reasoned struggle’ methods, a commitment to using fewer chemicals. This is actually quite close to being organic. It is also certified by Terra Vitis for sustainable and environmentally friendly viticultural practices, as well as having ‘Haute Valeur Environnementale‘ (High Environmental Value) certification. The wine is now made by ex-Montrose Cellar Master Laurent Savovitch whose precise approach to winemaking has helped this great property improve even further.
